CityGate Housing Investment: Reimbursement Update

CityGate Housing (also known as CityGate Housing Limited or CityGate Social Housing) marketed itself as a social housing investment opportunity promising high returns, ethical investing, and connections with local councils.

CityGate claimed investors could receive fixed monthly payments over a set term (often 36 monthly payments) in return for capital placed into housing projects. Minimum investments were large (often over £13,000), and the advertised returns were very generous, sometimes up to 20% per annum.

What happened with CityGate Housing?

CityGate Housing has now collapsed, ceasing payments to investors. The company was officially placed into liquidation on 23 June 2025, with losses believed to be around £20million pounds across hundreds of victims.

The City of London Police Economic Crime Department has launched an investigation into CityGate Housing and Social Housing Holdings. Four directors have been arrested under suspicion of fraud and money laundering.

We have spoken to hundreds of investors with CityGate who have unfortunately lost money to this complex and elaborate scam.

Recently, Refundee has seen an increase in Social Housing & Investment groups collapsing and investors losing their funds, such as Social Housing Group & The 79th Group.

Update on Reimbursements:

The good news is that cases connected to CityGate are moving in a positive direction, with successful recovery through UK banking regulations. This shows that recovery can be possible in situations like these.

One of our clients invested £13,000 through Lloyds Bank in the CityGate Housing scam, in what they believed to be a 'rent to rent' investment arrangement in social housing.

They believed all hope was lost and their money was gone for good. We conducted a thorough investigation before submitting the case to the bank and then the Financial Ombudsman. We managed to recover all of our clients' £13,000 funds plus interest, helping them get their lives back on track.

They state, “Refundee helped me get my life back on track and recover what I thought was lost, they managed everything for me, and I couldn’t thank them enough”

What to do if you have invested?

If you’ve been affected, it’s important to know you’re not alone. We’re speaking to victims who are now seeing results from taking action - and we encourage others in the same position to get in touch with us to see if recovery may also be possible.

Even if your bank has said no, we may still be able to help. Many of our clients are denied reimbursement by their banks, but recover their funds through the Financial Ombudsman Service.
